Lowrider Arte Del Varrio, 1979

After the first couple of years of publication, Lowrider Magazine received countless photos and drawings from fans wanting to be printed in the magazine. Sonny Madrid came up with the idea to create an off-shoot of LRM to showcase all of the mailed-in art, this resulted in Lowrider Arte Del Varrio, and would eventually become Lowrider Arte. The first 4 issues were printed in a large format of 15x20in! Not only were they showcasing art from across the southwest, but they also held competitions and awarded prize money to the best art.
